Our Client, a Major international contractor, is looking for a Lead Metocean Engineerto work on a project based in Kazakhstan.



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Engineering (Oceanographic or Meteorological degree preferred), Civil Engineering. 
  • Must have 6-7 years of practical experience in offshore MetOcean surveys and MetOcean station maintenance.
  • Must have 5 years of practical experience in MetOcean datasets, QC and reporting.
  • Experienced in the use of basic Ice & MetOcean analysis tools.
  • Proficient with MS Windows, MS Outlook, MS Excel, MS word and basic programming skills.
  • Ability to learn and speak English and Russian or Kazakh in a business environment is considered a significant advantage.

Quality Assurance (QA), analysis and storage of the weather forecasts and Metocean data. Execute tasks related to continuous provision of Metocean stations, equipment and software maintenance. Execute tasks related to the Metocean data and information provision. Produce the annual and ad-hoc Metocean reports.



Metocean data QA, analysis and storage:

  • Control the transmission of the Metocean data and take required actions in case of data transmitting stoppage.
  • Review the Contractor’s weekly/monthly Metocean data QA report in order to identify and solve the problems with the data.
  • Process, QA and archive Metocean Data as per agreed procedure.
  • Execute Metocean data/information requests and document in way of technical note if required for operational , engineering and design needs.

Ice & Metocean equipment and software maintenance:

  • Review equipment status reports from Contractors (failure, damage etc) in order to identify and solve any problem with the equipment.
  • Regular update the inventory records provided by the Contractor.
  • Review software status report from Contractor or end-users in order to identify and solve the problem.
  • Generate detailed specifications and instructions to Contractors for software development, forecasting system modifications and QA, and the introduction and testing of new technologies.
  • Participate and take active role in Internal Assets or Customs audits.
  • Execute the importation of the purchased Ice & Metocean equipment etc.

Weather forecasts QA and distribution:

  • QA of weather forecasting products in order to ensure provision of weather forecasts at required level.
  • Review and authorize verification reports produced by Contractor.
  • Monitor the quality of the water level forecast and change the ice code if required (in winter).
  • Send the warnings on low water levels to agreed distribution list.
  • Execute tasks related to the delivery of standard weather forecasts, specific weather forecasts and verbal weather briefings.

Contractor Site Visits coordination:

(During preparation to the Site Visits (onshore/offshore) and after the Site Visit occurrence):

  • Review and authorize the Data Pack prepared by the Contractor.
  • Arrange all required transportation, equipment shipping and accesses to the Weather stations by the Contractor.
  • Review and authorize the site visit reports produced by Contractor.
  • Control the completion of the outstanding actions from the Site Visit. 
  • Participate in the Site Visits and act as a client representative.
  • Promote HSE culture during the Site Visits.


  • If required develop a procedure on data, equipment or software handling.
  • Technical evaluation of the contractor proposals. 
  • Coordinate Contractor’s team in order to ensure the timely completion of the tasks or services at required level.
  • Carry out visits to the Contractor office for equipment acceptance,  testing or inventory.
  • Calculate the Ice & Metocean KPI’s.
  • Produce Annual Metocean reports, such as:
  • Caspian Sea Level change report.
  • Data return and performance report.
  • Metocean Seasonal report (twice per year).
  • Perform routine and non-routine tasks without instruction / supervision.
  • May involve supervision of less experienced personnel and contractors.


Duration:          One year renewable


Residential:      This is a residential position working 5 days on/ 2 days off.


Rate:               US$485 per day worked (net of Kazakh tax).


Benefits:           Client pays mobilization/demobilization and flights, insurance and medical insurance/medical evacuation, Accommodation, transport.
