Our Client, a Major international Oil and Gas, design and construction contractor is seeking a Graduate Materials and Fabrication Engineer to join their September 2024 Graduate intake scheme based in their Surrey offices.

 

Our Client encourages and supports all engineers in their professional development to achieve Chartered Engineer status.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

A recent bachelor’s degree in Welding or Materials Engineering is required. Post graduate degree in Metallurgy is ideal. Some knowledge of Welding and fabrication of metallic material is also desirable. 

 

The client is ideally seeking applicants who have studied Materials Engineering at Swansea, Cranfield, Manchester, or Birmingham University.

  • You will ideally have had some experience working within an engineering organisation but full training will be given by the client.
  • Some work experience or a postgraduate qualification in Materials Engineering would be advantageous.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability in communicating and liaising effectively with colleagues at work.
  • Excellent written and oral communication.
  • Strong attention to detail and focus on results.
  • Keen interest in developing technically and willingness to work towards a recognised chartered engineering status.
  • A willingness to work if required in an offshore environment during construction activities.
  • A theoretical background in ferrous alloys and corrosion resistance alloys (CRA)
  • Understanding of chemical and mechanical properties as well as manufacturing processes in relation to alloys used in offshore / subsea applications.

  • Willingness in learning fusion welding processes related to offshore structure with a view to act as welding coordinator
  • Motivated in learning standard practices related to metallic material processing for the offshore  industry
  • Ability to prioritise work based on the urgency and deadlines as well as good decision making skills
  • Communicates effectively both internally and externally.
  • Requires strong theoretical background in ferrous alloys and corrosion resistance alloys (CRA), their chemical and mechanical properties as well as their manufacturing process in relation to alloys used in offshore wind farm structure and associate components.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

This is an excellent opportunity to work on a variety of projects - ranging from offshore wind farms to oil and gas infastructures.

 

Candidates will:

  • Assist with issuing documents related to the definition and production of components (pipe, fittings, etc.) needed for the construction of pipelines, sea lines, etc.
  • Support procurement and commercial office with technical analysis during project bid phase. Review our Client’s Specifications for pipes and fittings manufacturing
  • Support procurement department to establish bidder lists, evaluating and pre-qualifying vendors, bid assessments, audits
  • Review Supplier documentation for compliance with client/international specifications/rules
  • Issue Technical Bid Evaluation for Line-pipes and Fittings Supply
  • Assist MPQT, review/comment subcontractor documentation, review the inspection and test plan
  •  Discuss and interface with the method project engineers and/or TM during both proposal preparation and projects to identify particular project requirements
  • Liaise with welding, NDT and anticorrosion colleagues to identify critical requirements for product manufacturing that may affect our Client’s installation activities and to promote innovative solutions
  • Perform inspection site survey
  • Report for validation to his technical group leader
  • Coordinate material failure analysis
  • Maintain contact with Line pipes manufacturers to be updated on new technologist/Materials Selection, in order to optimize overall quality and costs

 

GenericKeyResponsibilities&Activities.

  • Provide technical support to projects and other disciplines with regard to metallic material
  • Provide technical support to procurement department
  • Liaise with fabrication yards for project related material procurement and troubleshooting
  • Assist in the generation of the material specifications and technical requisition
  • Participate in meetings with Clients, Vendors and Suppliers, and interface with Client representatives
  • Availability to travel abroad if required

 

SCOPE OF WORK:

Our client is one of the largest turnkey Engineering & Construction (E&C) contractors in the Oil and Gas sector with a proven track-record over many years, and increasingly growing towards the Renewable Energy Sector as well. With a strong bias towards remote areas and challenging deep-water locations, it is a leader in the supply of engineering, procurement, project management and construction services, with distinctive capabilities in the design and execution of large-scale offshore and onshore projects.

 

Our Client operates a prestigious fleet of vessels for offshore construction in shallow and deep water. These include Heavy lift vessels & large transportation barges for installing/removing topsides, jackets and large  windfarm  components, Pipelay vessels for installation of rigid / flexible pipelines, umbilical’s & cables, construction vessels for subsea trenching & subsea structures installation.

 

Training and development will be provided to build a range of technical and professional skills, which are necessary to work in their multi-disciplinary project based organisation covering at times a range of work locations. Whilst the role will predominantly be London based, some flexibility will be needed to undertake work in other offices and offshore sites at appropriate times.

 

Our Client is actively expanding our capability in engineering and construction in the renewables sector (offshore wind farms).

SALARY & BENEFITS - £33k per annum plus full training for degree and Masters graduates.

These are Permanent Staff positions and joining a major organisation would have many large company benefits. For a fresh graduate the starting salary is good with higher salaries for those with a PhD .

 

Please also note that candidates must be available for interview either in their office if you live within travelling distance or via a Teams call if not. Start dates from around mid-September but they may be happy to start sooner for the right candidate.
